in the Christmas Hark Up Choir?

Eligibility

The Christmas Hark Up Choir is a non-auditioned choir. You do not have to audition for the choir. The age of the choir is between 15 and 75. It is a multi-generational choir. Younger students (ages 12 – 14) can sing if a parent commits to singing with them in the choir. Over the years the choir size has run between 80 – 110 singers.

Choir only Rehearsals and Commitment

Rehearsals begin in early to mid October. Rehearsals occur on Monday or Tuesday nights. A member can choose either day in each week. Out of the seven to eight weeks of choir-only rehearsals, each member is asked to commit to attending at least 80% of the rehearsal weeks. Choir members are asked to attend 100% of all full-company rehearsals and shows. Special exceptions are granted. Exceptions need to be discussed with the Hark Up Choir leadership within the first two weeks of rehearsals.

Rehearsal Location

The Monday and Tuesday night rehearsals take place in two different locations. Monday night’s rehearsal will be in the Grand Rapids area. Tuesday night’s rehearsal will be in the Jenison – Hudsonville area.

Combined Rehearsals and Shows

There are seven to eight weeks of choir only rehearsals. The Monday and Tuesday night prior to Thanksgiving are both full-company rehearsals. Attendance is expected at both nights. Tech and dress rehearsals include the Sunday after Thanksgiving through Thursday of the next week. One night either Tuesday or Wednesday is given off. Shows are the Friday, Saturday and Sunday the week after Thanksgiving week.

Special Ensembles, Groups and Solos

All special ensembles, groups and solos are auditioned. Auditions often take place in the late summer and early fall. Some auditions take place within the first week of choir rehearsals. You must sing in the choir to be considered for the other opportunities and you must make a 100% commitment to all full company rehearsals. Rare exceptions are granted. There will be additional rehearsals for the other ensembles and groups. Those rehearsals will take place in the downtown Grand Rapids at the Hark Up offices.
